Legends Solar was a climate investing startup that allowed users to purchase real, operating solar panels on commercial facilities and earn returns as the power was sold to the grid. Investors could track their investments in real time through Legends Rooftop, our monitoring interface.

I was inspired to build Legends Solar after noticing how much homeowners with residential rooftop solar loved checking in on their panels via the apps provided by inverter companies. Despite their low quality, many homeowners became hooked, checking their panels multiple times a day.

What if we could harness that high level of engagement, enhance it with an intuitive, social, and rewarding interface, and monetize it by offering users the opportunity to invest in even more solar?

The platform attracted thousands of investors, securing millions in pre-commitments to purchase solar infrastructure. Despite this initial success and backing from major solar finance organizations, Legends Solar ended operations in 2023 due to challenges in acquiring assets to syndicate.
